Skate skied Middle, Skyline, and Highland roads today after 0.5 inch of snowfall overnight. The thin fresh snow did little to slow the speed of skiing on the hard packed 2-3 inch base. Although quite skiable the conditions have degraded since the roads were groomed last week. Snowmobiles and walkers have punched enough holes in the surface to make it bumpy and rough in a lot of areas. The worst being Middle road from the big hill out to Skyline. The stride track is still present there and on the far opposite side of the road has a 4-5 ft wide swath that is a lot smoother skiing than the center. Skyline is in better shape but down hills are hard packed and edging skis is difficult, the stride track look preserved most the way. Highland road had only 1 set of snowmobile tracks well off the center of the road. Hopefully a 40% chance of light snow on Sunday will freshen things up.
